BNP Paribas has been a partner of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) since 2006, when we commissioned a new piece of music, La Chaconne, for the ACO by Australian composer Christopher Gordon. This was to commemorate our 125th anniversary in Australia.

In 2009, we are proud to be the National Tour Partner of the Inner Voices concert series, featuring Guest Director, Finnish soloist Pekka Kuusisto.

The ACO has an international reputation, presenting performances of the highest standard to audiences around the world, including 10,000 subscribers across Australia.

Through the BNP Paribas Foundation, BNP Paribas committed to support the work of a leading research team at the Garvan Institute, focused on the study of the genetics of breast and prostate cancer.

In addition, we contribute funding for the purchase of vital machinery to assist in the Garvan's genetics research.

Our staff also generously donate to the Garvan through Workplace Giving and volunteer at Garvan Open Days.

The Garvan is one of Australia's largest autonomous medical research institutions with almost five hundred scientists, PhD students, researchers and support staff. Garvan is internationally recognized as a leader in gene-based medical research and is committed to delivering new insights into major diseases and finding novel ways to treat disorders such as cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, eating disorders and dementia.

Medical Research

Through the BNP Paribas Foundation, we are supporting an international team of researchers who are studying a facial cancer that is threatening the Tasmanian Devil with extinction.
The aim of the research is to identify the cause and prevent the spread of the highly contagious cancer.

The knowledge gained from the research is also expected to enhance understanding of human cancers and the vulnerability of humans to infectious cancers.

This research team is led in Australia by Dr Vanessa Hayes, head of the Cancer Genetics Group at the Children's Cancer Institute in Australia.
Dr Hayes has played a major role in understanding the genetics involved in breast and prostate cancer.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales

artgalleryAs part of our 125th anniversary celebrations in Australia, the BNP Paribas Foundation funded the conservation and restoration of a painting by Flemish artist Frans Snyders, at the Art Gallery of NSW.

The Boar Hunt, which was donated to the AGNSW in 2005, required significant restoration. It is the only painting attributed to the workshop of Snyders in an Australian Public Collection, and is the only work of its kind, a 17th century Flemish hunting scene, in Australia.

The restored painting is now on permanent display in the AGNSW.
