Forbes magazine has released the list of the Top 2000 largest companies in the world, based on sales, profits, assets and market value. BNP Paribas comes 14th in all categories combined, compared to its former position of 17th in 2006. The bank ranks n°1 of the French companies, ahead of Total (19th), Axa Groupe (23rd), Société Générale (24th) and Crédit Agricole (45th).
In the banking industry, BNP Paribas is ranked 6th behind three US institutions (Citigroup, Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase) and two from the UK (HSBC Group and Royal Bank of Scotland). The Group remains the leading bank in the euro zone ahead of Société Générale (9th), Banco Santander (10th) and ABN-Amro Holding (14th).
